First and foremost, you need to be evaluated by a physician or go to the nearest emergency room, all too often waiting can result in serious problems which could have been avoided. No, in most instances without proper examination the injured person cannot be sure if they have a fracture, herniated disc or other serious matter.
Follow the directions of the treating Physician, use ice or heat if that has been advised, take all medications only as prescribed, and follow up the next day immediately. In my office, patients who are involved in an automobile or work accident are seen immediately
If it is an automobile accident—file a police report and call your insurance company immediately If you have experienced a work related accident, it should be reported immediately to your employer and documented.
Depending on the severity of the accident, you may need to contact an accident attorney, but your health should be your first concern—not a lawsuit.
I cannot stress the importance of medical treatment being the first concern, nor the importance of proper medical documentation of your condition in all instances, whether it be a potential lawsuit, time off from work, or further treatment.
Finally, NO Physician’s Assistant, Chiropractor, Nurse Practitioner, or other ancillary medical personnel should be evaluating you—especially right after an accident. So don’t be afraid to ask: "Are you a Medical Doctor?" —Dr. Sklar |
